Learning how to use the phototypesetting machine in the graphics workshops at the California Institute of the Arts, Ann Noel experimented with the "American Heritage Dictionary" definition of the word.
The vertical version of the text was shown exhibitions "The Early Years of CalArts" both in Hanover and in Graz.
